SPI wind water sports park in the works
Staff Reports
Paddleboarders, kayakers and windsurfers will soon get an upgrade to their place of enjoyment on the Laguna Madre.
Over the last month, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been accepting comments from the public on the City of South Padre Island’s Wind and Water Sports Venue Project.
The site of the new diggs will be on a 107-acre parcel of land, wind tidal flats and marsh that neighbors the Laguna Madre nearly half a mile north of Beach Access Road 4, along Park Road 100.
Plans for the venue include a driveway and parking spaces, and a staging area for athletes to stage and set up their equipment before entering the water.
