Q&A with Shaun Moore, Port Isabel Tarpons senior center/post

The South Padre Island Post caught up with Senior Center Shaun Moore to ask him about the basketball season and his game. Here’s what he had to say in the Meet the Tarpons Q&A:

Q: Tell us when you knew you wanted to be a varsity basketball player, and why?

A: When I went to go watch my brother in his varsity game when I was younger.

Q: What is your fondest memory of your experience on the team this season?

A: Any tournament that I’ve been to with the team I am currently with right now.

Q: How excited are you about being a member of the basketball team?

A: I am very excited to be apart of something special.

Q: What did you do this summer to improve your game to get ready for this season?

A: I played with a summer league team that included players from my current team to better improve our chemistry as well as work on my individual skills to help me score more during the season.

Q: Who has influenced your play style the most?

A: Dirk Nowitzki

Q: Who’s your favorite professional basketball player?

A: Luka Doncic

Q: Who’s the greatest basketball player of all time?

A: Micheal Jordan

Q: What drew you to play basketball over other sports?

A: The fun I had playing basketball compared to other sports when I was younger.

Q: What aspect of your game comes easy to you?

A: Using post maneuvers to get open and create space.

Q: What advice has the coach given you that you’ll always remember?

A: The only people that can take us down is ourselves.

Q: If you could play any basketball player 1v1 who would it be?

A: Luka Doncic

Q: Is there a particular significance to your jersey number? 

A: It’s the same number my mom wore when she played basketball in high school.

Q: What is the worst practice you have ever endured?

A: When I practiced in the summer with my tee ball team and it was 100 degrees outside with no wind.

Q: What tips would you give to someone going out for basketball?

A: Try your best and don’t be scared to make mistakes and don’t be discouraged.

Q: What team is considered your biggest rival, and why?

A: La Feria because they’ve always been a tough team to beat and stopped us from getting district champs earlier.

Q: What is your most memorable shot?

A: My first points as a varsity athlete.

Q: Who would you pick as your all time greatest starting five?

A: Steph Curry, Micheal Jordan, Shaquille O’ Neal, Lebron James, and Dirk Nowitzki

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Mac n cheese

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: Science

Q: Who is your favorite basketball team?

A: Dallas Mavericks
