SOUTH PADRE ISLAND —- U.S. News and World report listed the Island as one of the cheapest places to visit in its Travel section.

Spring Break was rated No. 2 for the bang for the buck. New Orleans landed in the No. 1 spot.

According to the report, SPI has is a Spring Break haven for college students from across the country to take some time away from school to enjoy the Island attractions with friends.

The report also stated, a great time for sun seekers to visit the Island is during the months of September to February for its low hotel rates and relaxed aura.

South Padre Island is about 2 square miles and can easily be explored on foot in a day. The town’s three main north-south boulevards – Laguna, Gulf and Padre – and the short cross-streets are littered with shops, restaurants, bars and hotels. Vacation rentals and beach homes are speckled north and south of town.

There are plenty of things too do from soaking up the sun, shopping along the strip or enjoying the water.

In January and February the Island is best known for its annual SPI Polar Dip and Kite Festival.

March and April are best known for Spring Break.

June, July and August for summer and its International Fishing Tournament.

All year around the Island’s greatest attractions have always included boating, fishing, diving, surfing, kiteboarding and simply lounging on the beach.
