SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — The City of South Padre Island will be adding some new friendly faces to the beach who will help monitor the health and safety of the general public with its Beach Ambassadors program.

The Beach Ambassadors program is scheduled to launch September 4, 2020.

Anyone interested in participating is urged to contact the South Padre Island Environmental Services Department at 956.761.8123.

“Together we will work to keep the public health our top priority and offer information on the beach attractions,” said Victor Baldovinos, South Padre Island Environmental Services Director.

Beach Ambassadors will be identifiable with their custom City of South Padre Island shirt with logo and Beach Ambassador title on the back of their shirt.

Baldovinos stated at the recent city council meeting that the Beach Ambassadors program aims to educate beach goers about all current emergency management orders encompassing health and safety of the general public.

“The Ambassadors will provide monitoring and reporting potential health and safety concerns,” Baldovinos said.
